VESI Safe to Climb is an industry training module and competency standard used within the Victorian Electricity Supply Industry (VESI) to assess, inspect, and determine whether utility poles and associated structures are structurally safe to climb.
What the Training Covers:
Visual Inspections: Checking for identification discs, wood rot, fungi, white ants, lightning or fire damage, splitting, cracks in concrete, and rust on hardware.
Pole Categories: Identifying serviceable, limited-life, and unserviceable poles, as well as assessing staked or re-butted poles.
Testing Methods: Performing practical physical assessments, such as push and rope tests, to evaluate structural integrity before ascending.
Safety Equipment: Proper use and positioning of ladders, harnesses, and fall-protection gear.
