Program Description

This entry level training will equip you with the knowledge and skills required for traffic control in temporary traffic management category 1 environments (speed limit of less than 60km/h and traffic volumes between 3,000 and 10,000 vehicles per day). You will learn how to communicate in the workplace, control traffic with stop/slow bat; portable traffic control devices and temporary traffic signs.

*To enrol in this training you must hold the CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry or its equivalent unit*
This skill set is for individuals responsible for traffic control in temporary traffic management on Temporary Traffic Management Category 1 roads.

Program Summary

This skill set addresses the skills and knowledge required for those responsible for traffic control on Temporary Traffic Management Category 1 environments as described in the Austroads Guide to Temporary Traffic Management. Successful completion of the following three units of competency inclusive of at least 20 hours practical experience applying the relevant skills and knowledge in a temporary traffic management workplace:
  • RIICOM201E Communicate in the workplace
  • RIIWHS205E Control traffic with stop-slow bat
  • RIIWHS206 Control traffic with portable traffic control devices and temporary traffic signs.
The assessment for the units of competency comprises both theoretical and practical components. The practical assessment component is to be undertaken after the practical experience is gained. Practical experience requirements must be completed on declared Temporary Traffic Management Category 1 roads within at least six months of successfully completing the theoretical component.     Traffic sign for traffic controlling
